Similar to the thing about limited plate appearances, you could also get into that with fielding ratings. They’ve disclosed that it’s sort of a “meeting of the minds” so – while there are people on their panel from companies like BIS – it’s still a largely subjective rating. The fielding ratings, as well, aren’t something you can truly reverse engineer. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. If you have a batter, for example, who had 100 plate appearances total, but only 5 were against left-handed pitchers and he went 3-for-5 in those limited at bats… I really would *not* want to see the left-hand side of his Advanced card full of hits. Strat-o-Matic Baseball and APBA Soccer fan Paul Dylan who is the blogger over at One for Five took the plunge and tried out the APBA Baseball game. If a players card has 0s and then an extra column for extra base hits, then a 2 or 6 sometimes behaves differently than an. For example, you can’t in good faith base a card on a small sample size of contests versus a certain-handed opponent. (ooh… “dicey”? bad pun…) They have some proprietary formulas going on, it would seem, for the advanced side of their cards. Usually what I come up with isn’t off by more than like 0.5% from what the official cards, so I wouldn’t have any beef with them. I don’t think I’ve ever played a game that I *didn’t* attempt to reverse engineer! :-) I have something for Strat but that’s not something I’d share here.
